 Characteristics

The multiple sensing ports permit determination of the average flow rate across the pipe section.
This eliminates the need for traverse, which is necessary for conventional one-point measurement.
To supply the instrument air for air purge device which assembled on the Precision Differential Pressure Transmitter for continuous purging on the Pitot Tube port.
Continuous purging is carried out without permitting the gas stream to enter in the Pitot Tube.
Therefore the measurement can be prevented corrosion and sensor port clogging with dusts, mists, or fumes.

Multiple sensing ports of the CONTINUOUS PURGE FLOW METER system enable the operator to measure the average flow rate across the pipe section. The straight run requirement is normally as short as 5 times of pipe diameters of upstream and 2 times of pipe diameter of downstream (Dependent on the upstream conditions).
Flow straightener reduce the length of the straight run as same length of pipe diameters of upstream and same length of pipe diameter (Dependent on the upstream conditions).
The Composite Pitot Tube is under constant back pressure (air purged), due to the continuous air supply from
the Precision Differential Pressure Transmitter (continuous air purging).
This prevents dust, mist and fume from entering into the Pitot Tubes, eliminating corrosion of the Pitot tubes.
The Precision Differential Pressure Transmitter achieves the measurement of an extra-low differential pressure (25 Pa F. S.) which converted to flow speed of 1.4 m/sec. (at normal pressure and temperature in air basis).
The standard materials (316L Stainless Steel) permits measurement at a temperature up to 500°C.
Applicable to both circular and rectangular pipes and ducts.

 Installation

Typical Installation of Continuous Purge Flow Meter

  1. Composite Pitot Tube (or Barflow Tube)
  2. Precision Differential Pressure Transmitter
  3. Manifold Valve
  4. Air Supply Set
  5. Purge Set
  6. Automatic Blow System

A variety of combinations are available according to the applications and budget.
Where a high dust / mist content is expected, a combination of continuous air purge and a timer blow system drastically reduces your time and labor for maintenance.

  Continuous Purge Flow Meter System

Characteristics and Specifications of Instruments Used for
Continuous Purge Flow Meter System

 1. Composite Pitot Tube
Model : CPFT300S-** and CPFT300-** (** represents the pipe size)

CPFT300S (single mount type)

CPFT300 (double mount type)

The Composite Pitot Tube is designed to provide accurate measurement of irregular flow with a short straight run by sensing at multiple ports and averaging the measurements. The total pressure ports are furnished with rectifying tubes as flow straightener (named Keel devices), and the static pressure ports are horn-shaped to minimize the effects of turbulence and torsion of the gas stream.

  Type
CPFT300S (single mount type), CPFT300 (double mount type)
Pipe and Ducts cross section : circular or rectangular
  Max. flow rate
    35 m/sec
  Material
    Standard 316L stainless Steel
  Flange size
    CPFT300S standard 100A, 150A or higher
    CPFT300 standard 150A, 200A or higher
  Position of installation
Upper 160° is preferable for horizontal piping
No particular requirement for vertical piping
  Fitting with sensing ports
Standard Φ12.0 mm pipe fittings for high and low sensing ports

 2. Precision Differential Pressure Transmitter
    Model : DPT-CP500

Instrumented air with a pressure between 0.3 and 0.8 MPaG is supplied to the Air Supply Set, where the pressure is regulated to 0.14 MPaG.
Precision Differential Pressure Transmitter controls the purging air flow for Pitot Tubes.
Purged air flow rate is not effected by the variation of the static pressure changes in the process (constant purge of air to the high and low sensing ports of the Pitot Tubes).
These constant purging for High and Low port generates back pressure against the gas stream in the process, then a differential pressure produced to differential pressure transmitter in the Precision Differential Pressure Transmitter.

  Maximum static pressure
±8 kPaG (0.2 MPaG max. by special requests)
  Supplied air pressure
    0.14 MPaG, 2 liters/min (N2 supply is also acceptable)
  Operational atmospheric temperature
    -20°C to +60°C
  Power source
    24 V, 100 V, etc.
  Output signal
    4 to 20 mA (2-wires, 4-wires), 1 to 5 V
  Differential pressure range
    0 to 25 Pa (Min.) ...... 0 to 750 Pa (Max.)
  Accuracy
    ±1.0% F. S. (range wider than 0 to 25 Pa)
  Repeatability
    ±0.5% F. S.
  Pipe fitting ghighh and glowh
    Φ12.0 mm pipe fittings (standard)
  Pipe fitting gsupplyh
    Φ6.0 mm pipe fitting (standard)

The operation for extraction and temperature/pressure correction is carried out by the computer in DCS.

 3. Manifold Valve
    Model : 85MV

The manifold valve enables zeroing of Precision Differential Pressure Transmitter without stopping the air purge during continuous operation. The connecting tubing pressure losses are cancelled while zeroing.

  Switch
    between "zero" and "operation"
  Fitting
    standard Φ12.0 mm pipe fittings

 4. Air Supply Set
    Model : NAS1.4

This is designed to regulate the pressure of instrumented air, removing moisture and oil mist before supplying to the Precision Differential Pressure Transmitter.

  Supplied air
standard 0.3 to 0.8 MPaG (air or N2)
  Air consumption
    approx. 2 liters/min
  Fitting
    Φ6.0 mm fittings
  Filters
First filter, Second filter, and Oil mist filter element

 5. Purge Set
    Model : POMB/12

Purge Set controls the purging air flow for pitot tubes. Purged air flow rate is not affected by the variation of the static pressure changes in the process (constant purge of air to the high and low sensing ports of the Pitot Tubes).
These constant purging for High and Low port generates back pressure against the gas stream in the process, then a differential pressure produced to Differential Pressure Transmitter which connected outside on the Purge Set.

  Maximum static pressure
±8 kPaG (0.2 MPaG max. by special spec.)
  Supplied air pressure
    0.14 MPaG, 2 liters/min (N2 supply is also acceptable.)

 6. Automatic Blow System

The Automatic Blow System can be combined with a Composite Pitot Tube or Barflow Tube. Forced blowing is carried out for a predetermined duration at predetermined intervals using a microcomputer-controlled timer, which saves the time and labor of manual blowing. It can also be controlled from the DCS side. This can be incorporated in the control panel together with the motor-driven valve. Contact JMS for other combinations.
